It’s official: Kochadaiiyaan to release on 09th May – Kollywood News


Finally (hopefully, this ought to be the last time), the much-awaited and much-delayed theatrical release of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Kochadaiiyaan has been confirmed. Soundarya, the debutant director of the film, has said that the film would be released the world over on 09th May. As reported earlier, the film releases in nine languages and in close to 6000 halls, which is a new Indian record.

In a first-of-its-kind effort, Kochadaiiyaan has been made as an animation film in 3-D mode using ‘motion capture technology’. In specific number of halls, the film is released in 3-D version and in the normal mode in other halls. Rajini plays triple roles of King Kochadaiiyaan, Rana and Sena in the film which is the story of Pandya dynasty which ruled Madurai for many years.


Deepika Padukone has been paired opposite Rajini in the film. Shobana, Jackie Shroff, Sarath Kumar, Nassar, Aadhi and Rukmini Vijayakumar form the rest of the cast. Rajini’s dance sequence in ‘rudhrathandava’ style, captured in animated sequence, is said to be one of the highlights of the film. Rajini’s fans, who had been waiting impatiently for the film’s release, can now heave a sigh of relief.

In Japan alone, the film releases in close to 1000 halls as Rajini is hugely popular in Japan. His films, right from Muthu, have been doing excellent business at the box-office in Japan. In Tamil Nadu alone, Kochadaiiyaan is likely to release in more than 750 halls.
