Prakash Raj on Ilayaraja’s Madurai concert – Kollywood Today
Actor Prakash Raj, has said that he owes a lot to composer Ilaiyaraaja as his life is full of happiness only because of his music and songs. Prakash Raj was taking part in a live-in concert organized by Ilaiyaraaja at the Thamukkam grounds in the temple city of Madurai on Saturday.
Organized by Karthik Raja, Maestro’s eldest son, the event was titled as ‘IIlaiyaraajavin Sangeetha Thirunaal’. Karumuthu Kannan of the famed Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai inaugurated the event. The crowds which thronged the venue to listen to the Maestro’s live-in concert were unprecedented in numbers. The crowd kept silent at Ilaiyaaraja’s request. Suhasini Mani Ratnam played the host at the event.
Karthik Raja started the proceedings at the concert by singing a devotional song. Ilaiyaraaja, who appeared on stage amid a thunderous applause, sang the hugely popular ‘Janani…Janani’ song. Playback singers Hariharan, S.N. Surendar, Chitra and Ilaiyaraaja’s heirs Yuvan Shankar Raja and Pavatharini sang Maestro’s mesmerizing songs for the next three hours. As many as 32 songs were sung live on stage.
Speaking at the event, Prakash Raj said “I have come here especially to listen to Ilaiyaraaja’s songs live. He has composed music for my upcoming film Un Samayal Araiyil too. Besides scoring music for my films, Ilaiyaraaja has also taught me to be patient in life and to lead life in a natural manner sans any artificial air. His songs have always made me feel happy for which I and my family will remain indebted to him forever!”
